I guess you could say that they’re trying to make as much money from the consumer as they can. That’s capitalism for you, right? Can you blame them? Actually, I blame the consumer more than Microsoft. Case in point: When the DLC for Guitar Hero 2 was announced, the Internet asploded with people complaining about the price being way too high. Six months later, Activision announced that the GH2 DLC was some of the best selling DLC on the Xbox Live Marketplace. What reason does MS have to lower prices or give more away for free? People are spending money like crazy on that stuff. I would do the same thing if people were that willing to throw their money at me…

I’m not saying that it didn’t make financial sense for them. I’m saying that you can’t trust what they tell you. I think they way they price things is set up to milk as much money from the consumer as they can. $60 games, $180 for a 120GB drive, Charging for themes, preventing online play through anything but Live, etc… I’m not saying that that doesn’t make sense from their perspective either. My point is that they will lie to or deceive the consumer and will try to get as much money as they can from the consumer (i.e. rape them).

As far as the PS3 goes, Xbox 360 clearly had a better launch. The PS3 was probably one of the worst console launches of all time.

But you can’t fault them for doing any of that. They aren’t raping anyone. If they told everyone that they would have a model with HDMI in a year, people would hold off on buying it. The same thing is happening to Sony right now. They keep talking about all the games that are coming in the future, so people are waiting. Also, if they had initially included HDMI and HD DVD, there’s no way they could have launched at a $400 price point. Again, look at Sony’s current situation.

So there’s a chain reaction that would have happened. More expensive launch and promises of things to come = fewer 360s sold. Fewer developers would be anxious to make games on the platform because the install base would be much smaller. Who knows what games would not be on the 360 right now if MS pulled a Sony with the launch of the 360?

On top of that, at least MS is adding stuff to the 360. Sony is only removing stuff. So who had the better launch?

My favorite part is how they swear at launch that they’re not putting hdmi in the system because they don’t need it. Then everyone buys it and they come out with hdmi. Since, they said the same thing about bigger hard drives and HD-DVD, I assume it’s a matter of time before they include it. I know it would all be easier if you can just acknowledge that you will get a** raped and lied to by MS, but it’s still hard to accept.

Seriously, I hate when you get the first version SKU and then they come out with these new features on the new ones, and then you are just stuck at the end of the list with the crappier version. I’m happy with my 360, I just think it’s lame with new SKU’s coming out!!!

How much they will charge now? I think the elite should be cheaper to be closer to the price of the PS3 which has blu-ray. I guess you can get away with whatever you want when your main competition has a crappy game library.

I didn’t even know they made 320GB 2.5″ drives….
