Xbox Live Up and Down Again

January 1st, 2008

Reports earlier this morning stated that Xbox Live’s issues seemed to be resolved. A quick check of the Xbox.com Support page showed that Xbox Live was up and running with no disclaimers, which was a first in several days. Now, they’ve changed the message back saying that you might experience intermittent issues with signing in, matchmaking, etc. I guess it was fun while it lasted. Check out the Twitter widget on the left side of Major Nelson’s homepage for pretty frequent updates regarding the outages.

On a related note, there have been rumors that Microsoft will be offering compensation to it’s Gold subscribers for the downtime experienced the past week+. I think that would be fair, considering we are paying for the service, but it is yet still a rumor.

Rumor: Metal Gear Solid 4 Coming to 360

January 1st, 2008

We’ve heard this one time and time again, but these guys seem to be pretty confident about their source. According to the guys over at XboxFamily, the rumor came straight from a Konami distribution representative’s mouth. If their article is to be believed, the game will be released between 12 and 14 months after the PS3 version. I’m still not so sure about this one myself. One one hand, I don’t really see any reason that Konami wouldn’t want the game on the 360. Especially since the install base is obviously much larger. On the other hand, however, if the 360 version is 12-14 months after the PS3 version, is anyone even going to care by then? Personally, I don’t see the logic in it, but what do I know? Nothing, that’s what. Anyway, let us know what you think of this rumor, or if you even care. I know I don’t!

Yes, Xbox Live is still having issues

December 29th, 2007

xblstatus.jpgReports have been floating around the intarwebs for the past few days that Xbox Live is still having issues. Today, however, the status on the Xbox.com Support page has been changed. It seems that the issues may be related to the number of new accounts being created over the past week, as Ripten reports that Microsoft has temporarily suspended the ability to create new Gamertags. This is kind of confirmed by the Xbox Live status message you see to the right. I haven’t tried playing any online games in the past few days, but I have noticed that I can’t stay logged into Live for long periods at a time.

Eurogamer’s Top 10 Games of 2007

December 29th, 2007

Eurogamer has posted the first 10 of their top 50 games of 2007. I won’t spoil anything, because it’s a good read with some great commentary. You know it’s been a great year when seven of the top 10 games are available on the 360 and four of the seven are console exclusives to the 360. It was an awesome year for gamers, but a tough one for our wallets. If anyone cares, I’m trying to come up with my Top 10 before we get to 2008. With some luck, I’ll make it. Also, be sure to let us know what your Top 10 games are in our forums (which are still under construction, but functional).
