Rumor: Netflix on the 360?

February 12th, 2008

NetFlix MailersEngadget seems to think so. Or, at least, has found a blog post from someone that says that it’s coming and are hoping with all their might that it will. According to the post, a recent Netflix survey asked how likely you would be to watch content on the 360 (and PS3, for that matter). From there, the survey goes on to say that media will be playable via use of a special ‘decoder disc’ that will cost $3.

I recently signed up for Netflix (Yeah, I know, I know… 1998 called and chastised me for being late to the party) and as part of my new user survey did get questions about how likely I would be to watch content on a current-gen console, but I never got anything saying that there would be a decoder disk. Keep your fingers crossed regardless, but considering the source that Engadget used (“some blog”) don’t be shocked if this one doesn’t happen.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Developer Diary 2

February 9th, 2008

Just released is the second developer diary for Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The video details some of the changes and additions to the co-op and multiplayer modes in RSV2. One major disappointment that a lot of people already knew about: Co-op will support only two players. Kind of a bummer since we had four player co-op in the first Rainbow Six Vegas. Seems like a pretty big step back in that regard. Fortunately, they took a tip from the Gears of War play book and co-op will be of the drop-in/drop-out variety. One of the new multiplayer modes, called Demolition, is very reminiscent of Counter Strike and looks like it could be a lot of fun. One thing that doesn’t appear to have been added is a lobby system. When will developers get the hint?

Bungie: Halo 3 Melee Fix Coming Soon and a Valentine’s Day Hopper

February 9th, 2008

halo3_melee.jpgIn the latest weekly update from Bungie, they have announced that they are nearing completion of a Halo 3 auto-update and that it should be handed off to Microsoft certification very soon. By their estimates, the update should be rolled out sometime later this month.

In the weekly update, we have been given a detailed look at how melee works, not only in Halo 3, but in Halo 2 as well. The information is quite interesting, at least for a huge nerd like me, and I had one of those “ah-ha” moments when I learned exactly what causes us to perceive that the current melee system is broken. The solution they have decided on is simple: If you and your opponent have done sufficient damage to each other and you both melee at about the same time, you’ll both die. After reading and understanding the challenges they face in this area, this solution makes perfect sense. If you care at all about Halo 3, give the article a read.

Also in the update is word of a forthcoming Valentine’s playlist, dubbed the Valentine’s Day Massacre Hopper. This hopper will be a “Ranked, lean, Team Slayer-focused version (it will have a Team BRs variant, as well) of Team Doubles.”

Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 Play King-Of-The Hill on Live Rankings

February 7th, 2008

And what game won? Call of Duty 4. Major Nelson reports that the top spot is once again CoD’s after last week’s move back to the top by Halo 3.

On a more personal note, if you see me playing either game, just know that I’m an easy kill. I suck at FPSes if I don’t have my trusty keyboard and mouse.

Faith and a .45 Debut Trailer

February 6th, 2008

Faith and a .45 is an interesting looking game that I will be watching closely as it progresses. The story centers around a couple of outlaws and takes place during the Great Depression. It has a very “Bonnie and Clyde” appeal to it. With a good story and cooperative gameplay, this one could be a hit.

Hit the link for an interview with the game’s director, Søren Lundgaard.
