Xbox Originals Monday: Ninja Gaiden Black, Sid Meier’s Pirates! & BLACK

February 6th, 2008

ninjagaidenblack.jpgCome Monday, we will have a few more additions to the Xbox Originals library on Xbox LIVE. Gamerscore Blog has announced that for 1200 points each, we will be able to download Ninja Gaiden Black, Sid Meier’s Pirates! & BLACK.

A quick check over on Gamestop.com reveals that it’s actually cheaper to buy these games on Xbox LIVE rather than buying them used! Ninja Gaiden Black is listed for $25, Sid Meier’s Pirates! is $20 and BLACK is $18. Granted, you get no disc or manual and you have no way to resell the game should you so desire. Now if only you had room on your hard drive.

HD DVD Drive Price Dropped to $130

February 6th, 2008

hddvd.jpgGamerscore Blog has announced a price drop on the HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360. The price has been dropped $50 from $180 to $130. This makes it by far the cheapest HD DVD player you can buy, given you already have an Xbox 360. If you don’t, why are you reading this site?

The downside to this is the inevitable victory of Blu-ray over HD DVD, given the recent events. I’m not sure HD DVD will last another year or two. Other than the obvious size advantage of Blu-ray, HD DVD was the superior format. Hopefully, both formats lose and everyone learns a lesson.

Rumor: Dead Rising 2 Coming… But Not By Capcom?

February 5th, 2008

deadrising_sequel.jpg

Here’s a quick little tidbit from 1UP… Dead Rising 2 is currently in the middle of development, but NOT by Capcom (who created the original, all-too-short zombie slaughter simulator). An “unspecified Western developer” based out of Los Angeles is currently at the helm of this project.

Here’s hoping for a multiplayer mode!

Rumor: Could Gears of War 2 Be Coming in 2008?

February 4th, 2008

gamepro_gears2.jpgWho knows? But we’ll just keep pretending that the answer is yes, for now.

Thanks to Godfrey over on Gamertag Radio, we have been given a sneak peek of the upcoming issue of GamePro magazine. According to the cover, the issue contains a special report on a few Xbox 360 games, including Gears of War 2. No other details are known at this time, other than the game making the cover of the mag which hits newsstands on February 12th. But we here at XOD will be waiting in anticipation for some more information.

The only doubt in my mind? An announcement of Gears of War 2 being released in 2008 should probably make cover story, don’t you think?

Update: Mark Rein has swooped in to calm everyone down regarding Gears of War 2. Over on the Gears of War Forums, he has put a stop to all the speculation by stating: “It is complete nonsense. We have not announced a sequel to Gears of War to Gamepro or anyone else for that matter.”

Crackdown Finally Goes Platinum Hits

February 1st, 2008

crackdown_platinumhits.jpgI received the Xbox Flash newsletter today, and although there wasn’t much in it worth mentioning, I did notice that Crackdown has finally been added to the Platinum Hits collection. A quick check over on Xbox.com also confirms this. The listed price is now $30, which isn’t groundbreaking since sites like Amazon have been selling it at that price for a while now.

I think it’s about time they did this, though. A lot of people mistakenly discredited the game as the “Halo 3 demo with a free Crackdown” and I think it could have benefited from an earlier price drop. Say, before the holidays?

Conflict: Denied Ops Demo Includes Co-op!

February 1st, 2008

Major Nelson announced the Conflict: Denied Ops demo was released. According to his post, it includes both single player and co-op. I haven’t thought much about the game until I read this, but I’m a big fan of co-op games, so now I want to check it out. Hopefully the demo won’t disappoint.
