After being defeated for the first time since it’s release, Halo 3 has bounced back to reclaim the #1 spot on Xbox LIVE. Major Nelson has posted the Xbox LIVE stats for last week, and it appears that Master Chief wasn’t about to stay at the #2 spot for long. It will be interesting to see if Call of Duty 4 simply had a lucky week or if it will fight back to regain the crown. What say you?

Halo 3 Back on Top of Xbox LIVE
January 29th, 2008Call of Duty 4 Takes Top Spot on LIVE, Beats Down Halo 3
January 22nd, 2008Major Nelson has posted his weekly Xbox LIVE stats for the week beginning January 14th. Among the various letters and numbers, one interesting statistic stands out. Call of Duty 4 has moved into the #1 spot, beating Halo 3 in the number of unique users playing the game. I haven’t gone back week-by-week to verify this claim, but I believe this is the first time Halo 3 wasn’t #1 since it’s release in September. If that claim is false, please set me straight in the comments.
This is pretty unprecidented, especially considering many people* think of the 360 as “the Halo 3 box.” I guess there is room for two games in this box.
*I am not included in this group of people. Taking a look at the list of games I own should prove that claim.

NPD Numbers Released: It Was a Good Year
January 17th, 2008
The NPD Group has released their sales numbers for the month of December and the full year. The bottom line: Your bank account suffered…
The industry as a whole (excluding PC games) saw a 43% increase in sales compared to 2006. How much did they make, you ask? $17.94 billion dollars! The Xbox 360 was no slouch in the console department selling 1.26 million units in December and 4.62 million in the entire year. It’s in the software sales, however, that the 360 really shines. The 360 version Call of Duty 4 was #1 for the second month in a row selling a whopping 1.47 million copies in December. Three other 360 titles made the top 10 for the month, including Assassin’s Creed, Halo 3 and Guitar Hero III.
On the annual sales front, Halo 3 dominated with 4.82 million copies sold, beating Nintendo’s Trojan horse Wii Play with Remote by 600,000 units. Call of Duty 4 and Assassin’s Creed also made the top 10 for the year.
Hit the link and come to terms with the realization of where all your money went this year.
