Just released is the second developer diary for Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The video details some of the changes and additions to the co-op and multiplayer modes in RSV2. One major disappointment that a lot of people already knew about: Co-op will support only two players. Kind of a bummer since we had four player co-op in the first Rainbow Six Vegas. Seems like a pretty big step back in that regard. Fortunately, they took a tip from the Gears of War play book and co-op will be of the drop-in/drop-out variety. One of the new multiplayer modes, called Demolition, is very reminiscent of Counter Strike and looks like it could be a lot of fun. One thing that doesn’t appear to have been added is a lobby system. When will developers get the hint?

Today Ubisoft released a brand new development diary with RSV2’s lead designer, Philippe Therien. The video shows off some of the new environments and also many of the changes that have been made to the rewards and upgrade system.
First off, the new environments look amazing. It’s so nice to see some colors other than brown and dark red. The visual appeal, or lack therof, was one of my biggest complaints about the first RSV. This time around, the environments are looking more colorful and more vivid.
Second, the changes to the rewards system and character customization are bringing this game to the top of my “most anticipated” list. The Persistant Elite Creation is actually persistant now! You be able to play the same character in single player, multiplayer and co-op modes. In addition to that, no matter what mode you play in you will be rewarded for actions and accomplishments. For example, getting certain types of kills or reaching specific checkpoints will all add to your experience in different categories. As you gain experience in these categories, you will be rewarded with different weapons and upgrades.
